Geranium pratense 'Dark Reiter'

Meadow Cranesbill

10365770957111|Geranium pratense 'Dark Reiter'|Meadow Cranesbill|

Striking dark reddish-brown coloured foliage and more compact growth sets this form apart. Blue flowers appear above the dark foliage creating strong contrast. Make sure to deadhead after flowering since resultant seedlings will only partly come true to name.

The dark foliage provides season-long interest beyond the flowering period. More compact than typical meadow cranesbill. The purple-brown leaves distinguish it from all green-leaved forms. The foliage colour is the primary ornamental feature. Suitable for foliage contrast in borders.

The blazing magenta colour of this robust clumping geranium will not appeal to everyone but goes well with greens, grays, whites, and blues. The eye of flower is deep purple-black. Remove spent flowers to prevent self-seeding. Forms substantial clumps with long flowering period.

RHS Award of Garden Merit. The intense colour creates strong impact in borders. The robust nature makes it reliable and long-lived. The purple-black eye provides striking contrast with magenta petals. One of the parents of 'Patricia'. Best with plants that can handle its vigor and colour intensity.

Masses of pretty lavender-blue flowers appear above olive-green foliage on this new introduction from Belgium. A most floriferous clone. The puckered suede-like foliage is characteristic of renardii. Seems quite similar to Geranium renardii 'Philippe Vapelle'.

The species is well worthy of a warm sunny location. The puckered foliage creates unique texture. This selection is notably more floriferous than typical species. The lavender-blue flowers with veined patterns are characteristic of the species but produced more abundantly.
