A bold perennial with large, palmately lobed leaves forming substantial non-invasive clumps. White flowers appear on separate male and female plants. The foliage is held elevated, keeping lower garden levels open. Resents drying out and requires abundant organic matter.

Native to eastern United States. Essential to maintain moisture through dry summers. Male and female plants needed for seed set. The architectural foliage and substantial scale make it suitable for large borders. The elevated leaf canopy creates interesting vertical layering without crowding ground level.
