Macedonian Scabious

Exceptionally long flowering paired with ease of combination makes this very usable. Flowers appear as multitudes of tight burgundy buttons at tips of densely branched plants. First leaves in spring are almost entire, becoming more feathery as season progresses. The overall form is light and open.

Most at home in sunny well-drained border, tolerating regular garden soil and growing more upright in leaner soil. In rich soil, provide strong-shouldered neighbours for plants to lean on. Self-seeding occurs under appropriate conditions. Native to southeastern Europe. The extended bloom and airy habit make it excellent weaver.
