Symphyotrichum oblongifolium

Symphyotrichum oblongifolium

Aromatic Aster

10365777576247|Symphyotrichum oblongifolium|Aromatic Aster|

An aromatic native aster forming bushy clumps with numerous small lavender-blue flowers in late summer and autumn. The foliage is narrow and gray-green, and plants maintain a compact, self-supporting habit. Flowers appear in profusion, covering the plant in a haze of colour.

Thrives in sun with well-drained soil and is notably drought-tolerant once established. Suitable for borders, meadow plantings, and naturalistic schemes where late season colour is valued. The flowers attract butterflies and beneficial insects. Native to central and eastern North America. More compact and refined than many New England asters.
