Hakonechloa macra 'Albostriata'

Hakonechloa macra 'Albostriata'

Variegated Hakone Grass

The foliage shows attractive yellow-white pin-stripe striations. Not as vigorous as species. There are some shoots that can revert to plain green form. Important to remain aware and remove any solid green leaves by tearing them off at root as they develop in late spring. If left, the greens will dominate.

Native to Japanese mountains. The variegation brightens shaded positions. Suitable for shade gardens, containers, and woodland edges. More delicate than green species. Requires vigilance to maintain variegation by removing reversions. The cascading habit is graceful. Prefers shade and consistent moisture. The striped foliage provides season-long interest.
