A tall monkshood with strong, upright stems and deep violet-blue hooded flowers carried in late summer to early autumn. Foliage is deeply divided and dark green, forming a substantial clump in moist, fertile soil. Best grown in partial shade or sun where the soil remains cool and evenly moist.

A long-lived perennial that provides height and late-season structure. All parts of the plant are toxic if ingested and may irritate skin.
