Panicum virgatum 'Shenandoah'

Panicum virgatum 'Shenandoah'

Switch Grass

Similar to other red-leaved selections but with earlier and more intense colouring of foliage. This selection is quite slower to develop which makes it suitable for smaller gardens as well. Will remain upright in most winters. Evaluated and selected by Hans Simon of Germany.

RHS Award of Garden Merit and Great Plant Pick. Native to North American prairies. The burgundy-red foliage develops early in season. More compact than some switch grasses. Suitable for borders, prairie gardens, and containers. The intense colouring is particularly attractive. Combines well with late perennials. The upright winter structure persists. More manageable size for smaller spaces.
