About the farm →

Glenraven is a small working farm and plant nursery on Salt Spring Island. Plants are grown here in the open ground and under cover, selected for longevity, structure, and seasonal interest, and offered in limited quantities as they become ready.

Winter at Glenraven

Winter is a practical season here. The rains continue and the ground stays open, so most work shifts to preparation. Stock is assessed, pots are cleaned, and next year’s growing plan is reviewed. The greenhouses stay in use for maintenance and early propagation.

In the gardens, the structure of each bed becomes clear once the summer growth has died back. Grasses keep their form and the winter stems mark the layout of the planting. This is when we take note of what worked, what needs adjustment, and what will be changed in spring.

Plant sales resume in spring. Through winter, the focus stays on steady nursery work so the season can begin in good order.
